Episode 04: Netflix and Chill with Manwë

Posted by on Feb 12, 2018 in Podcast, Silmarillion, Tolkien | 0 comments

In this weeks episode of So, You Want to Read Tolkien, Rachel and Emily and Caitlin read Chapter 4: Of Thingol and Melian, and Chapter 5: Of Eldamar and the Princes of the Eldalië

Chapter 4 Characters

  • Thingol – Discussed in the previous chapter as Elwë. One of the 3 ambassadors that went to Valinor, saw the tress, and convinced other elves to make the journey. The lord of the Teleri elves until they split up.
  • Melian – A Maia of the Valar Lorien.

Chapter 5 Characters

Chapter 5 is mostly about the House Finwë. A lot of names are mentioned so instead of listing them all, I shall link to a family tree here. The tree goes a couple more generations than is mentioned in this chapter. Those generations will happen over the course of the book so it is a handy guide to have.

Groups of Elves:

After going on my long sum up of the different groupings of Elves, I found this page in my book which breaks them all down and is very helpful.

The most important ones to remember for now, are the Noldor and the Teleri.
