Episode 38: Quenglish

On this week’s episode we discuss chapter 3 of The Fellowship of the Ring, Three’s Company, and discuss the complete wack fact that Frodo speaks Quenya.

Characters

  • Frodo Baggins – a hobbit who has recently sold his home.
  • Gandalf – a wizard, who abandons his boy.
  • Samwise Gamgee – Frodo’s gardener. What will he do now that Bag End is sold?
  • Pippin Took – Frodo’s friend. Concerned about why he sold his home.
  • Merry Brandybuck – unable to stay and watch as Frodo sells his home.
  • Fredeger Bolger and Folco Boffin – lesser friends of Frodo. We do not know their opinion on the selling of Bag End.
  • The Old Gaffer – A hobbit happy to have retired from gardening before Frodo sold his home.
  • Lobelia Sackville-Baggins – THE ONE WHO HAS BOUGHT FRODO’S HOME.
  • Lotho Sackville-Baggins – Lobelia’s son, get’s to live in Frodo’s home.
  • A rider in a black cloak – Appears to be following Frodo. Possibly upset at the selling of Bag End. Possibly there are two of them.
  • Gildor Inglorian of the House of Finrod – an Elf. Keeps Frodo safe from people upset that he sold Bag End.

Episode 37: Don’t Abuse the Doom

  • Sauron – evil dude. Previously, Morgoth’s grounded son.
  • Gil-Galad – last king of the Noldor
  • Elendil – High King of Gondor and Arnor
  • Isildur – Elendil’s son
  • Deagal – a hobbit like person
  • Smeagal – a cousin of Deadgal’s
  • Aragorn – a super good tracker. Perhaps one could say, a ranger.

Places:

  • Hobbiton – a town in the Shire.
  • Mirkwood – a large forest the Bilbo spent some time in.
  • Mordor – Bad place.

Episode 18: Frickity Frack

This week Caitlin, Rachel, and Emily discuss the final chapter in the Quenta Silmarillion.

Characters:

Eärendil – son of Idril and Tuor, ruled Sirion and married Elwing

Elwing – daughter of Dior, Earendil’s wife, currently holding the silmaril at the start of this chapter

Elrond – their son

Elros – their other, less famous son

Cirdan – the Shipwright, helps Earendil build the Vingilot.

 

Remaining sons of Fëanor:

Maedhros and  Maglor survive the third kinslaying in this chapter.

Ulmo–our Valar of the sea.

Eonwë – herald of Manwë

Manwë – king of the Valar

Morgoth – Big Bad

Thorondor – the king of the giant eagles

Types of Elves/Men/Beings

Valar – first beings in Aun, essentially the gods here

Noldor – Elves who were ruled by Finwe, Feanor’s original people

Vanyar – High elves, the very first clan of elves and also the smallest

Teleri – Led by Elwe and Olwe, elves with ships by the sea

Edain – Men who came from Hildorien

 

Things with Names

Vingilot – the ship Earendil tried to sail to Valinor in (and other places, but like, most important is that one)

Episode 17: The Answer is Always Doom

Tuor – son of Huor, therefore nephew of Húrin and cousin to Túrin, born immediately after the battle of unnumbered tears.

Ulmo – vala of the oceans, only one who hasn’t abandoned Middle Earth.

Turgon – Lord of Gondolin

Voronwë – the only elf to return from the ships Turgon sent to try to go to Valinor and try to get help

Idril Celebrindal – daughter of Turgon

Maeglin – nephew of Turgon, child of Turgon’s sister Aredhel and the emo elf Eol.

Ecthelion – guardian of the gate to Gondolin

Glorfindel – along with Ecthelion, Turgon’s captains

Thorondor – lord of the eagles

Morgoth – still evil

Gothmog – Lord of the Balrogs

Manwë – king of the Valar.
